Is it a good time to talk about race? It depends. Is it Thanksgiving dinner? Is Uncle Buddy rocking a fresh Confederate flag tattoo? Are you arguing in front of the Supreme Court? Then maybe not. But perhaps you think it’s important to acknowledge the ugliness of the past and the present and likely the future — or just like to immerse yourself in thought-provoking conversation. If the latter is the case, you’re gonna dig White People. The edgy think piece from the offbeat Churchmouse Productions wing of Pegasus Theatre is heady and heavy, exploring themes of race, guilt, consequences and the power of language. It’s not for the easily offended, but neither is any candid conversation about race in this country. The controversial and critically lauded play by J. T. Rogers will be staged at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 East Lawther Drive, beginning Thursday and running through May 25. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $10 through Sunday and then $20 thereafter. Purchase them at brownpapertickets.com/event/625783.
