For the life of me, I will never understand how a person can spend a day in 90-degree heat and then declare that they need a cup of tea. I took my very British mother to the Arboretum last week, and I guarantee that if she’d known they were having Mothers’ Teas, she would have insisted on cooling off with a piping hot cup. It’s clearly a mom thing. Or a British thing, I don’t know. Either way, the teas are a posh way to catch up with mom after a stroll through the gardens. The Arboretum (8525 Garland Road) hosts the teas daily (at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) in May at the DeGolyer Tea Room. Reservations are required, and the cost is $32.95 per person. Call 214-515-6512.
May 1-31, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
