Who knew someone who claims to not understand sex, and who yet was put on trial for allegedly touching young ladies on their naughties, could be such a hoot?! Somehow Paula Poundstone has transcended her oddities and resurrected her career. In fact, she has twisted said oddities into positives, utilizing her quirky personality and sideways view of life as touchstones for her standup. As you might have noticed from her appearances on the NPR news quiz show Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me, Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion and Late Night With David Letterman, Poundstone’s greatest asset is her ability to improvise. She’s smart as a whip, and her tongue is unleashed as quickly as one too. Check her out when she signs her new book, There’s Nothing in This Book That I Meant to Say, 3 p.m. Saturday at Borders Preston-Royal, 10720 Preston Road (call 214-363-1977), and later that night at her highly improvisational standup show at Bass Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth (Call 877-212-4280 or visit basshall.com). Tickets are on sale now and range from $22.50 to $45. Oh, and by the way, the charges were dropped.
