They say that since its inception in 1983, the North Texas Irish Festival has always been centered on the music, dance and culture of Ireland. With a majority of its demographic aged 21 to 45, we gotta wonder what it’s really all about. What do people over 21 want in a festival? Well, during this 25th anniversary edition of the festival might it be top Irish musicians and dancers on eight stages including the McTeggart dancers and music from the Glengarry Bhoys, Makem Brothers and Cathie Ryan? Storytelling, a children’s area, traditional Irish food, cultural displays and presentations that focus on the highlights of Irish culture in this county? Or perhaps some Celtic art will bring out the 40,000 to 50,000 people expected this year? That sounds better, but we’re missing a much discussed and enjoyed aspect of Irish culture. Yet, we can’t seem to think of it, what with this hangover clouding our brain. We have a problem, don’t we? The North Texas Irish Festival opens at 6 p.m. Friday night with full festival activities and continues Saturday and Sunday at Fair Park. Tickets are $15 for the day or $30 for a three-day pass.
