Prefixes are the gold medal winners of linguistic affixes — they always come in first. But when it comes to the MAC’s Annual Membership Exhibition, Trans-, everyone wins. A juried exhibition featuring work submitted by the MAC’s faithful supporters, Trans- features works in all media from visual to performance art and literary readings. As far as this year’s theme, the MAC puts it best: “This familiar prefix introduces common words we use on a daily basis to the most obscure in the English dictionary — Transcontinental, Transesterification, Transsexual, Transgression, Transparent, Transmogrify, Transportation, Transformation …” In other words, it’s a celebration of movement, through and beyond, a progress, an evolution, metamorphosis. While the visual art exhibition runs through September 1, join artists for live readings and performances at the opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 3120 McKinney Ave. Visit the-mac.org for more details.
