Funny isn’t exactly the term that springs to mind when I hear the words “feminist musical revue.” Instead, I have to admit I instantly typecast and imagine a stage full of DiFrancos—with perhaps a braless L7 or a protesting Baez thrown in for good measure. Hence, the Contemporary Theatre of Dallas’ A…My Name is Alice didn’t spark a lot of interest in my apron-wearin’, makeup-lovin’ heart. Then I saw the writers’ names and one screamed out: Anne Meara. I’d watch just about anything her comedic genius came up with…and the woman can wear the hell out of some eyeshadow. Maybe feminists aren’t so humorless after all. I’ll let you know after performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays (no performance Easter Sunday) through April 29.
