We bestow many great honors upon prominent deceased members of our human race. Some are immortalized with statues, others are featured in portraits painted or photographed by the world’s most talented artists. Big, shiny buildings borrow a deceased’s surname, and scholarships and foundations do the same. Bo-ring. Who wants a statue when you can be memorialized by real, live people dressing up in white, sparkling one-piece jumpsuits, bushy stick-on sideburns and oversized sunglasses? Ain’t that right, Elvis? Ah-uh-huh. If you think you’ve got what it takes to do right by Elvis’ eternal soul, here’s your chance to prove it. Dick’s Last Resort, 2211 North Lamar St., is hosting an Elvis memorial party complete with impersonator contest from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. this Thursday. The winner gets a trip to Vegas for Elvis’ birthday this January. Call 214-747-0001.
Thu., Aug. 16, 8-11 p.m.
