Texas guitarists must have a general reputation for greatness. How else can you explain two Lone Star six-stringers in a punk band that otherwise embodies Beantown pride? Created when former Dropkick Murphys singer Mike McColgan returned to music following a brief firefighting career, Street Dogs get back to the basics of loud-guitar/shouted-chorus drinking-class working songs. Doing Texas proud, Pilot Point’s own Marcus Hollar beefed up the band’s guitar sound for 2003’s Savin Hill, a disc of shout-alongs toasting old friends and soldiers and roasting warmongers and corporate radio. Dallasite Tobe Bean III has since joined as the Dogs’ rhythm guitarist as well.
