A few days before hitting Denton on her current headlining tour, former Helium front woman Mary Timony will have wrapped up a series of West Coast dates opening for Sleater-Kinney, which makes good sense: Like S-K on their latest, Timony stretches out on her new Ex Hex and unabashedly brings the rock. Made with drummer Devin Ocampo (a vet of D.C. art-punk outfits Faraquet and Smart Went Crazy), Ex Hex features choppy, knotty riffs laid over meticulous beats that would sound awkward if they weren’t so muscular. It’s a slight departure from much of Timony’s precious neo-prog solo work. Opener Medications is Ocampo’s new band.
