Police in Arlington have closed Interstate 30 at Cooper Street after a pursuit of a tractor-trailer ended in flames. Police said that SWAT teams were “working a standoff” with the stopped vehicle and at 3:20pm reported that “the occupant of the 18-wheeler is in custody.”
Traffic conditions are extremely congested and are not expected to improve soon. “Both sides of I-30 at Cooper remain closed. Avoid the area,” Arlington police advised on Twitter.
An Arlington police spokesman described the chain of events at the scene, saying that a Fort Worth police officer tried to pull over an 18-wheeler “traveling at a high rate of speed.” The driver of the tractor-trailer fled, striking several vehicles along the way before smashing into another vehicle and coming to a halt. “We can confirm the driver of the vehicle next to the 18-wheeler escaped and was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injures,” Arlington police say.
